Rev. Rick Souter

Rev. Rick Souter is the Pastor at the Grantville United Methodist Church.  Grantville UMC has two services on Sunday, a contemporary service at 8:20 a.m. and a traditional service at 10:45 a.m.  An audio recording of scripture and a message by Pastor Rick is available on the pastor’s page.

Rev. Souter served at the United Methodist Church in Perry from 1993-1997.  He then served in Junction City and Hiawatha.  While in Hiawatha, he also served as a chaplain for the local National Guard unit.  From there he was mobilized as an Army Chaplin in 2003 and sent to Iraq for a year.  He was returned to Fort Riley, but then returned to Kuwait from 2010 to 2012.  He then came back to the United States and retired from the military.  Grantville is his first church since retiring from the military.  Pastor Souter was born in Camden, Ark.  He enlisted in the Air Force right out of high school where he served as a medic.  It was while serving on the island of Guam, when he met the lady who many years later was to become his wife.  After his discharge, he went to school for three and half years and earned a degree in psychology in 1979.  He served as a local pastor from 1986 to 1989, which does not require a seminary degree, before deciding to go to seminary to become a full-time pastor.  He graduated from St. Paul School of Theology in Kansas City in 1993.

Pastor Souter has been married for 34 years to his wife, Rose.  They have five children, Jason, Robert, Laura, David and Michael.  They are also presently raising their oldest grandchild, Kati.
